Help give a child and their mum their first Christmas of freedom.

This Christmas morning, half of the people waking up in our 65 refuges across the country will be children. Many of them will have arrived just days before with only the clothes on their back.

They’ll be filled with worry and memories of bad Christmases before. “Is it my fault what happened? If no one knows where I am, will Santa find me? If he doesn’t come, does that mean I’ve been bad?”

Yet this will also be their first Christmas where children and their mum can simply be together, without constant fear.

This winter, you could buy their first present under the Christmas tree – or even the tree itself, perhaps the first tree they’ve ever been allowed.

Then, on Christmas they’ll open their present and a spark will light up in their eyes as they find a new teddy, just for them. And for their mum, there’ll be a gift that allows her to remember who she is and that she’s no longer controlled by someone else.

When you give to Refuge this Christmas, you’ll help make this a Christmas they want to remember.

£5 a month could go towards providing emotional support to a child.
90% of domestic abuse in a family household happens in the presence of a child. Your support could help fund a child support worker to help children overcome the trauma of experiencing domestic abuse.

£10 a month could give a woman her independence back.
Women are often forced to stop working by their abusers, or they have to leave their jobs when they escape. Your regular gift could provide employment and financial advice from our specialist staff, to help give a woman back her independence and support her back into work.

£15 a month could provide essentials for families arriving in our refuges.
Every day, women and children escaping life-threatening situations seek safety in our 65 refuges. Many arrive with little more than the clothes they are wearing. Your gift could go towards providing nappies, blankets, food and clothing so they can feel warm, safe and comfortable from the moment they walk through the refuge door.

£10 Children escaping an abuser often have to leave all their toys behind. Your donation could give them the joy of new toys and games, to replace the ones they’ve lost.

£30 Your donation could help to pay for a special festive feast for a woman staying in one of our refuges this Christmas.

£52 Your donation could pay for one safe night in a refuge for a woman and her children fleeing an abuser.

£100 Your donation could provide a survivor staying in a refuge with a laptop, so that in the new year they can return to work or complete a college course.

£700 Your donation could help to keep one of our refuges running for a day – so that mums and their children can have their first Christmas of freedom together, without constant worry and fear. This illustrates the average cost to run a refuge, as our safe accommodation varies in size and support services.
